Best action figures for kids in 2026, by age

Action figures are not one category. A chunky figure that survives a toddler is a very different toy from a 6-inch figure with 28 joints, and a collector figure with swappable hands is not built for the sandpit. So we sorted the play action figures in our Action Figures chart by age and kept nine, each rated 4.5★ or better on Amazon. Ratings and ranks are from our September 24, 2026 catalog check; the age bands are the ones on each ToyScout product page.
The quick answer
- Under 3: Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Story Duos, 4.8★ with 5,376 ratings.
- Ages 3 to 5: the Spidey and his Amazing Friends Friends & Foes Pack, 4.9★, or the Bluey Family 4-Pack, 4.8★ with 25,043 ratings.
- Most-reviewed: Disney Store Buzz Lightyear Interactive Talking Action Figure, 4.7★ across 49,775 ratings and #1 in Action Figures.
- Ages 6 to 8: Transformers Heroic Optimus Prime, 4.6★ with 11,601 ratings.
Toddlers: figures for small hands
1. Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Story Duos. Four pairs of figures: Moana and Pua, Belle and Mrs. Potts, Tiana and Naveen, and Snow White and Dopey. The listing says they are sized for small hands and recommends them from 18 months to 5 years. They also fit any Little People playset you already have. See its full ToyScout page.

2. Bluey Family Figure 4-Pack. Bluey, Bingo, Chilli and Bandit, with movable arms and legs. They are small enough for a bag or a coat pocket, which makes them a good travel toy. With more than 25,000 ratings it is one of the most-reviewed figure sets in our catalog. Our product page lists it for ages 3 to 5.
Preschoolers (3 to 5): first superhero and movie figures
3. Spidey and his Amazing Friends Friends & Foes Pack. Five 4-inch figures: Spidey, Iron Man, Doc Ock, Green Goblin and Electro. Heroes and villains in one box means a child has a whole story ready to play, and the listing describes them as durable for preschool play, for ages 3 and up. At 4.9★ it is the highest-rated pick on this list.

4. Marvel Super Hero Adventures 5-Inch Action Figure 5-Pack. Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Hulk and Iron Spider, each with four points of articulation and an accessory. It is the step up from Spidey for a child who already knows the Avengers, and the listing says it is sized for younger heroes, ages 3 and up.

5. Disney Store Buzz Lightyear Interactive Talking Action Figure. The most-reviewed action figure we track and #1 in Action Figures at our last check. Buttons trigger more than 10 phrases, a wing release, a karate-chop arm and laser lights, and the listing says it unlocks extra phrases with other Toy Story figures. For a preschool Toy Story fan, it is the easy gift. See its full ToyScout page.

Ages 6 to 8: bigger, more poseable action & toy figures
6. Transformers Heroic Optimus Prime (11-inch). A large robot that changes into the red and blue Optimus Prime truck in six steps. The listing calls it an easy conversion for kids 6 years old and up, so it is a good first Transformer. Two toys in one also means it gets played with for longer.

7. Fortnite Legendary Tomatohead (6-inch). A 6-inch figure with 28 points of articulation, a harvesting tool, back bling and a code for a virtual item in the game. For a child who plays Fortnite, the code is a big part of the appeal. It has fewer ratings than the others here (283), but they average 4.8★.
Older kids and collectors: anime action figurines
8. Total Anime Izuku Midoriya (6.5-inch). Deku from My Hero Academia, with more than 30 points of articulation, swappable faceplates, alternate hands, a removable backpack and energy effects. It sits between a play figure and a display figure, which suits a school-age anime fan. Our product page lists it for ages 6 to 8. Rated 4.5★ with 2,106 ratings.
9. S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan God Son Goku (God Aura). A detailed Dragon Ball Super figure from Tamashii Nations with interchangeable hands, faces and head parts. This is a collector piece for teens and adults, not a toy for rough play, so keep it on the shelf and away from younger siblings. Rated 4.5★ with 851 ratings.
How to choose
- Check the age on the box. Figures with small accessories, such as swappable hands or weapons, are a choking risk for children under 3.
- Count the joints. Preschool figures move at the head, arms and legs. Figures for older children and collectors have 20 to 30 points of articulation, which look better on a shelf but break more easily in rough play.
- Buy the characters they already know. A multipack of heroes and villains from one show gives a child a ready-made story.
The bottom line
For a toddler, buy the Little People Story Duos or the Bluey Family 4-Pack. For ages 3 to 5, the Spidey Friends & Foes Pack or Buzz Lightyear. For ages 6 to 8, Optimus Prime. For an older anime fan, Deku. Check the price on Amazon before you buy, since it changes often.
